Ten years ago today, we celebrated my dad's 50th birthday singing 'Family Tradition' karaoke together. Little did we know he would be dead in 5 years. He died during a first time rehab stay detoxing from Xanax and Suboxone.  Two years prior, he had detoxed himself from a 20 a day Lortab habit he picked up after knee surgery.  He was so excited to find Suboxone.  He made us all read the literature and thought it would be his savior.  The two years he spent on this medication were his ultimate demise and downfall.  It's the new methadone and in my opinion, ten times worse and more addictive than the narcotics it is meant to inhibit.  I think prescription pill abusers are given this, it is costly and they want more, so heroin is a cheaper and easier to get alternative.  Luckily my dad didn't do heroin or have access to that, but I'd bet this is what happened with Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Starting Dtox Organic Juice and Junk, pursuing Ayurvedic Wellness Coaching and starting the Daily Dtox blog, all stem from my desire to share what I have learned about food and mood.  They have EVERYTHING to do with one another.  By focusing on your food, maybe you find that dairy is the cause of your "seasonal" allergies.  The allergy medication could be tossed if you tossed the dairy.  The extreme tiredness you felt on the allergy meds were combatted with large amounts of caffeine.  The caffeine made you so anxious, you eventually started taking an anti-anxiety pill.  And the cycle begins.   If I can show you how to feel amazing on a daily basis without ever starting the vicious cycle of pills, it's worth it.

We all miss our Big Daddy and wish he were here today to celebrate his 60th birthday.  He talks to me via music, Willy Nelson specifically.  I listened to his greatest hits all during the funeral days.  Last year on my dad's birthday, Willy Nelson's "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die" randomly came on.  That was totally my dad saying Ha Ha and HI.
