When Life Hands you Lemons
Shannon Sliger
When life hands you lemons……make sure they're organic, and then squirt that stuff on everything. By now you have seen a million posts about drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning. That is no joke. My gastroenterologist doctor friend said he'd be out of a job if everyone did this.
What does it do? It switches the body from being acidic to being alkaline. Funny since it feels like battery acid if you squirt it in your eye. An acidic ash is left behind from our SAD diet of meat, dairy, processed foods and grains. An acidic environment breeds inflammation which is the beginning of disease in the body.
An alkaline environment is the ideal state to stay healthy. This is the idea behind green juice. You want to get your juices as green as possible with as little sugar as your palette can handle. The more lemon added naturally preserves the juice's quality and taste.
I like to do green tea with lemon and honey-kill two birds with one stone. Or make it a Dtox H2O with alkaline water and cayenne. This promotes a bowel movement first thing in the morning. It helps to flush out mucous and speeds up the metabolism.
Keep organic frozen vegetables ready to steam for a quick dinner. Squirt the broccoli or green beans with lemon for a non-buttered, delicious, fresh taste that can alleviate or lessen the amount of salt needed.
Lemons have a unique flavonoid compound with antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. Full of vitamin C, lemons are a top powerhouse superfood.
