Yoga Lightness

Shannon Sliger

I did my third yoga class since the c section this past Saturday.  The first I did 4 weeks postpartum.  I am a yoga instructor and very intune with my body.  I did a Baptiste style power class and did headstand leg lifts.  It felt great.  I was very modified and took it super easy.

I did my third yoga class at 8 weeks postpartum on Saturday and I am so sore.  I can really feel the plank work in my abdominal area.  I have always had weak abdominals.  After 2 c sections, I feel the work but I don't feel any weaker from it.

What I feel as a stark difference in my practice is the lightness.  I have none.  I feel like a brick when I felt light as a feather before.  I was light in my bones and in my mind.  It takes time to feel this or to get back here.  I had forgotten the difference.  It's a practice.

I you want to feel like a bird in class and not like a dump truck, stick with it.  The lightness comes and it has nothing to do with weight.

The 21 Day Belly Fix

Shannon Sliger

We had our Dtox Piedmont Park Grand Opening on Tuesday night.  It was a great night with Dr Taz Bhatia speaking to the group.  She is an Atlanta Holistic and Integrative MD and the author of The 21 Day Belly Fix and of What Doctors Eat.  Follow her book and use Dtox Juice to find mental clarity and focus, a brightened, balanced mood, to look and feel your best and to find gut health, the key in many opinions to wellness and happiness.

Stop by one of our 3 locations in Atlanta to grab the Dr Taz smoothie.

Weekend Clean and Lean

Shannon Sliger

Always something inspirational happening at Atlanta Hot Yoga.

Always something inspirational happening at Atlanta Hot Yoga.

I recommend that those on C&L take the weekend "off" to eat clean on your own or to enjoy what the weekend brings.  I find that my sugar cravings have ceased and I want to continue with smoothies, salads and juice because I feel better and sleep better this way.  Saturday started with a green tea, lemon and honey and a DTOX Rise N Shine smoothie with puerh tea in it instead of coffee.  I hit Octavia's 10:30 Atlanta Hot Yoga class and then had a Lean Mean Green. Since it was my birthday weekend, I had a facial and then some shopping with Mary Elle.  I had a DTOX Energy, an ImmuniTEA and a probiotic salad.  I also had some blueberries and guacamole.  121

Sunday morning I had the green tea and the same Rise N Shine smoothie again.  This gets me to noon usually before I want anything else.  However, I stopped by DTOX to test some new recipes.  I ate two collard wraps because they were so delicious and some chia porridge.  I also had DTOX raw oatmeal.  After church, I had an ImmuniTEA, a walk in Piedmont Park and that was it until 5.  We celebrated Salter's awesome guitar concert at El Taco.  I had queso, guac, tacos, and a margarita.  And Monday morning, I have bags under my eyes, itchy ears and throat, a stomach that doesn't feel so well and I can't sleep.  Blogging at 4am.   All a great reason to start back on DTOX.

Update-Sharing weight is always an obnoxious thing.    But if you're keeping a weight loss journal, it helps to see.  When pregnant with Salter, I was desperate to absorb as much info as possible and was on BabyCenter.com every day.  The girls who started the How Much Do You Weigh threads were always annoying.  Especially the ones who said I'll go first.  I am negative 4 pounds.  Well, I always gain all my weight in the first trimester because I listen to my body and my body really wants French fries and mayonnaise.  Now I have Vegannaise but you get the point.  I fed my nausea but was never sick luckily.  So I feel for those who are vomitting but comparing weight with them was frustrating.  My weight is too high for my frame which is 3 apples high.  I'm like a Smurf so 123 is too high for me.   A better measure is to take your measurements or work to fit back into your favorite  pair of jeans.  During this week of mostly Clean and Lean with smoothies added as needed, I lost 3  pounds.   I ended up at 120 on Sunday morning.  And I haven't weighed myself since.  It's been over a week.  I don't attach too much to the weight number.  It's much more effective to feel good in your skin or your clothes because that's what's its really all about right?  How do you feel in your skin? Measure that.
